What does add to reading list mean? Reading correctly on iPhone and iPad

In addition to numerous changes to the interface, it comes bundled with several new applications, of which many of us are sure to love Reading List. This application works best with the Modern version of the Internet Explorer browser, and to be more precise, it only works with it.

A panel with the Reading List application icon will appear on the right side of the screen. To add a page to the application, just click on this icon and then on the “Add to Reading List” button.

To view saved pages, you need to launch the “Reading List”. When you open any saved page, the app will automatically snap to the left side of the screen and Internet Explorer will open to the right, allowing you to see both apps side by side. In addition, you will be able to quickly open other pages.

To delete a page from the application, just right-click on it and click on the “Delete” button at the bottom of the screen. Recently deleted pages can be accessed from the top bar of the application. Unfortunately, the application does not have a “Mark as read” function.

Deleted pages can be retained for a maximum of 60 days and a minimum of 10 days. To configure the retention period for deleted pages, go to the application settings (Win + i) and select the option that suits you.

Reading List is a great app, but it's obviously still a work in progress. Perhaps by the launch of the final version of Windows 8.1 the application will acquire the missing functions.

Have a great day!

Today, many smartphone and tablet users prefer to read e-books, because it is really convenient, portable and affordable. And to read e-books on the iPhone screen, you need to install a special reader application on it.

An application provided by Apple itself. It has an excellent design, as well as the necessary minimum parameters that will ensure comfortable reading: here you can adjust the font size, switch between day and night modes, quick search, bookmarks, paper color. Support for PDF, audiobooks, etc. has been implemented.

Among the nuances, it is worth highlighting the scarcity of supported formats: electronic books can only be downloaded in ePub format (but, fortunately, there are no problems with it on sites with electronic libraries), as well as the lack of page synchronization for downloaded books ( this function valid only for books purchased from the iBooks Store, where there are practically no Russian-language works).

liters

It is difficult to find a book lover who has not at least heard of the largest book platform liters. The iPhone application is a combination of a store and an e-reader, which, by the way, turns out to be extremely convenient in practice, since it has font and size settings, paper color, and even indentation settings, which, for example, are unforgivably large in the iBooks application.

But since liters is a store, books cannot be downloaded here from third-party sources. The application implies that this is where you will purchase books, after which you can immediately proceed to reading with the ability to automatically synchronize what you read with your account.

eBoox

A free, convenient e-reader for iPhone that stands out because it supports almost all formats e-books, changes the background, orientation, font and size, but most importantly, it can switch between pages using the volume buttons (this is the only reader in the review with this ability).

A nice addition is the presence of built-in instructions telling you how to download e-books from a browser, iTunes or the cloud. By default, the reader already includes several wonderful literary works.

FB2 Reader

Despite its name, this application is positioned not so much as an e-reader, but as a file manager for viewing photos, documents and e-books on your iPhone.

As a tool for reading e-books, there are practically no complaints about FB2 Reader: there is a pleasant interface here, there are opportunities for fine-tuning, for example, setting the exact color of the background and text for both the day theme and the night theme. You can also praise it for its “omnivorousness,” which allows you to open many formats of books and text documents in the application.

KyBook 2

An extremely successful reader with a high-quality interface, as well as a wide range of settings that can be applied to all books loaded into the application, or to just one.

From distinctive features It is worth highlighting the synchronization of metadata for books, the ability to disable the phone “falling asleep” while reading, the presence of sounds even when turning pages (they can be disabled), design themes, and a built-in translator.

Wattpad

The application allows you not only to read, but also to exchange thoughts with authors, search for books based on recommendations, find like-minded people and new interesting experiences. That is, for a certain monthly fee you will have access to a library of thousands of books in different genres.

There are no complaints about the reader itself: a nice minimalistic interface, only basic settings for displaying text, the ability to synchronize book metadata, and also track statistics of time spent reading for a selected period.

What do we end up with? High-quality applications for reading books, each of which has its own characteristic features in the form of free libraries, the ability to subscribe to bestsellers, single book purchases, etc. Whatever reader you prefer, we hope that with its help you will read more than a dozen books.

When you can’t carry a volume of War and Peace with you everywhere, or you want to take a whole stack of books on a trip, but there’s no room left in your suitcase, an e-reader on your phone comes to the rescue of a book lover. The latest iPhone models have large enough screens that you can easily read a book on them. But when studying this issue, users are faced with the fact that they are constantly trying to sell them something. Either applications for reading books, or the books themselves, or something else.

Perhaps the simplest and most convenient application for reading books on iPhone is the standard iBooks application. With iBooks, you can buy e-books, read your own EPub or PDF books, and create electronic library cataloging available books. This application is free and pre-installed on iPhone, iPad and iPod.

If you want to read books through iBooks for free, you first need to download them to the iBooks app. To do this, you will need a computer with iTunes installed, as well as the books themselves in EPub or PDF formats, which you can download on the Internet.

To get started, connect your iPhone to your computer using a cable and launch iTunes. After that, click on the device icon that will appear in the upper left corner of the iTunes window (screenshot below). This will take you to the iPhone settings.

After this, you need to go to the “Books” section. A link to it will be available in the left side menu of the program.

As a result, a page with a list of books on your iPhone will open. To download a new book to your iPhone, simply drag it to this list using the mouse. If the book format is supported, the book will automatically be downloaded to the iPhone’s memory and become available in the iBooks application.

After that, turn off your iPhone and check iBooks. If everything was done correctly, the downloaded books should appear in the application library.

How to read books for free using third-party apps

If the iBooks application does not suit you or you want to read books not only in EPub or PDF, but also in other formats, then you can use third-party applications for reading books. There are quite a lot of such applications, and you can easily find them in the App Store.

One of the most popular applications for reading books on iPhone is the application. This application is distributed free of charge and supports almost all popular e-book formats. In particular, Kybook supports EPUB formats, RTF, PDF, FB2, DJVU, CBR, CHM and others. In general, if you don’t know which book reading application to choose, we recommend trying Kybook first.

Once you have installed the book reading application, you need to load your books into it. To do this, you will again need a computer with iTunes. Connect your iPhone to your computer, launch iTunes and click on the device icon in the upper left corner (screenshot below).

After that, go to the "Shared Files" section.

As a result, a window with two lists will appear in front of you. On the left there will be a list of applications into which you can download files, and on the right there will be a list of files that belong to the selected application. Here in the left list you need to select an application for reading books (in our case it is Kybook).

And then upload books to the selected application using the “Add file” button.

As a result, the books will be loaded into the device’s memory and will become available in the interface of the selected application. Now you can read these books absolutely free using your iPhone.

Found something on the Internet that you want to read later? Do you need to save something to view it offline? The Safari browser for iOS has a Reading List feature that lets you save pages for later reading. Such pages can be opened at any time, even if the device is not connected to the Internet.

Steps

  1. 1 Open the site or article you want to save in Safari. Safari for iOS 7 and later supports saving pages in a “reading list.” Reading List stores an archived copy of the site so you can access it while you're offline.
  2. 2 Click the Share button. It looks like a square with an arrow and is located at the bottom of the screen (iPhone) or at the top of the screen (iPad).
  3. 3 Click Add to Reading List. This will allow you to add the site to your “reading list”.
    • If you sign into your iCloud account from your Mac, everything in your Reading List will be synced between your computer and your iOS device.
  4. 4 Keep the tab open for some time. If the site is large, leave the tab open for some time to allow Safari to save all of the site's contents. Once the browser has finished downloading the site, you can close the tab.
  5. 5 Open your reading list. To do this, click "Bookmarks" and then click on the glasses icon. A list of pages saved in your Reading List appears.
    • The Bookmarks button looks like an open book and is located at the bottom of the screen (iPhone) or at the top of the screen (iPad).
  6. 6 Click on the page you want to open. You can access any page on your "reading list" even if your iOS device is not connected to the internet.
  7. 7 View the saved page. After a few moments, Safari will display the page. The images should load, but the embedded video probably won't (you'll need to be connected to the internet to do that).
    • If you are viewing a site offline, any updates you make after saving the site will not appear.
    • If you are reading a forum, the links on the saved page will not work.
  8. 8 Go to the next saved page or site. To do this, simply scroll down the current page. You can continue to do this until you reach the last saved page. Scrolling up will take you to the previous saved page.
  9. 9 Switch between all pages or between unread pages. To do this, click “Show all” or “Show unread” (in the lower right corner).
  10. 10 Removing pages from the “reading list”. To do this, swipe the saved page from right to left and click “Delete”.

Troubleshooting

  1. 1 Update your device if your Reading List doesn't work offline. The initial release of iOS 8 had a bug that prevented you from opening the Reading List while offline. Upgrading to 8.0.1 or later will resolve this issue.
    • Open the Settings app and tap General.
    • Click Update software" and then click "Install Now".
  2. 2 Clear Safari cache. Some users have reported that clearing the cache can fix problems accessing the Reading List.
    • Open the Settings app and tap Safari.
    • Click "Clear history and website data" and then confirm your decision.
  • If you have devices linked to an iCloud account, the pages or sites you save in your Reading List will be available on all of your iCloud-linked devices.

Warnings

  • Some page elements, such as videos, sometimes don't load when you view the page offline. So, just in case, check important pages on your “reading list.”
